Excello Records

Al Ferrier - Excello Records # 2105 - March 1957.

Side A - I'm The Man

Side B - Hey! Baby

Side A - I'm The Man

Side B - Hey! Baby

Quite simply, this is X rated rockabilly, adult material, top shelf bop!

The A side is a great Johnny Cash type thang and it works, it's cool as an ice box and sharp as a razor but then you flip it! and boom! you get 'Hey Baby' aka 'Let's Go Bopping Tonight' and you are in the outer stratosphere and still climbing, just an unbelievable slice of 1957 rockabilly, I have the 45 as well and these are worth every penny if you find em', just the greatest!

Al Ferrier, Sr. (born August 19, 1935 in Olla, Louisiana; died January 6, 2015 in Natchitoches, Louisiana) was an American Rockabilly, country and gospel singer and guitarist, hailed as "King of Louisiana Rockabilly".

Al Ferreir - Vocals/Guitar

Brian Ferrier - Guitar

Katie Webster - Piano

Warren Storm - Percussion

Disappointed by Shuler's lack of promotion on Goldband, Ferrier jumped at the chance to record for J.D. (Jay) Miller, at his better equipped studio in Crowley. "Let's Go Boppin' Tonight" was rerecorded in a more polished version, which came out on Excello 2105 in early 1957 under the title "Hey Baby". Some of the lyrics had been changed and Miller's name replaced Shuler's as the co-writer (with Al). By this time Warren Ferrier had left the band to follow religious pursuits, but Brian and Al both play guitar on the Excello single, together with Miller's usual studio crew, including Katie Webster on piano and Warren Storm on percussion. The flip of "Hey Baby", "I'm the Man" displayed an obvious Johnny Cash influence. Ferrier stayed with Jay Miller for the remainder of the 1950s, with further recordings being released on Miller's own labels (Rocko, Zynn), in a more main- stream rock n roll style.

West Coast Records

West Coast Records - Four Star Custom

Tommy Kizziah and his West Coast Ramblers

West Coast Records - OP-115 - 1951

Side A - Too Much Light In My Eyes

Side B - Long Tom Boogie

Now here is a mighty fine a pretty rare Four Star Custom record OP (Other People) 115 by the tip top Tommy Kizziah and his West Coast Ramblers. Tommy and the Ramblers did go on to see a release of the B side on Four Star proper so must have sold pretty well in the region.

A side just does what it does, just a decent country duet by Buddy & Evelyn (band members?) but it's the flip that takes you to guitar boogie land and back again! just amazing country boogie and boy does it move!

VIK Records

 VIK records.

Joe Clay - Vik Records - X-0211 - May 1956

Side A - Duck Tail

Side B - Sixteen Chicks

Joe Clay (Claiborne Joseph Cheramie) passed away on the 26th Sept 2016 but he left us some of the greatest rockabilly records ever made. This one on Vik is a twin sided monster that really doesn't need any introduction by me!

A very rare record on 78rpm and was pressed in limited amounts unlike the 45 rpm which was pressed in much greater numbers and vinyl version is still pretty easy to find today.

On these tunes you'll hear Hal Harris on lead guitar and Link Davis on rhythm guitar and along with the fantastic rockin' vocals by Joe. In one word, this record is 'Perfection'
