Quality Records !

Quality Records (Canada)

Ernie Chaffin - Quality Records # 1659 - 1957
Side A - I'm Lonesome
Side B - Laughin' and Jokin'

Originally released on the legendary Sun records from Memphis in the same year and picked up for a release on the Canadian label Quality.
This is a rare find on a 78 by Quality (only listed as a release on Quality as a 45 rpm on Discogs) and in my opinion one of the greatest recordings made at Sun studios .......better than any Jerry Lee Lewis recording .......so is a mystery why Sam released 4 singles by Ernie but he never pushed him like he did with all the others.
Anyway, this is a quality record released on a Quality label. Pure country bop, original sound, original production and just brilliant IMO.

Harris Records !

Harris Records!

Danny Brown and the Circle "O" Ranchboys
Side A - Party Girl.
Side B - You're Gonna Be Fooled.
Mt. Pleasant, Texas.

A mighty fine record by Danny Brown and his Circle "O" Ranchboys out of Mount Pleasant, Texas (date unknown) but sounds around 52/53.
Both songs bounce along at a fine mid tempo pace, classic country Hillbilly, piano, guitar, steel guitar and fiddle provide all the usual and mostly expected sounds and all played to a very high level.

Academy Records !

Orville 'Rusty' Newby and his Saddle Serenaders
Academy Record # WS 100 - July 1950 - Fresno, CA
Side A - Ghost-Town Boogie.
Side B - I Can't See The Sun For The Tears.

This ghostly horror hillbilly lament was recorded in Fresno, CA in 1950 and by jingo it's a horror smash. Ghost-Town Boogie is just incredible, a haunting ghostly steel weeps along with scary lead guitar and vocals that would scare a tumblweed back up a tree. Additional vocals by Ray Cook . Killer Hillbilly Diller!!!!!

Orville 'Rusty' Newby and his Saddle Serenaders
Academy Record # 100 - 1950 - Fresno, CA.
Side A - I Can't See The Sun For The Tears.
Side B - I'll Understand My Dear.

Here is another Academy record by Orville with the exact same label number # 100! (No WS Prefix) But I just cannot be sure which version was released first! Both these records have the same song listed on both versions! 'I Can't See The Sun For The Tears' on the A Side here but on the B side of the 'Ghost Town Boogie' release!

To be honest! the A Side here is a pretty bang average country tune! nothing special! so leads me to think they loved the song and when 'Ghost Town Boogie' was recorded they knew that was the better song and re-released the same version of 'I Can't See The Sun For Tears' on the B side!
