Jamboree Records # 590 (Starday Custom) - April 1957
Curly (Ray) Sanders
Side A - Why Did You Leave Me
Side B - Brand New Rock and Roll
This would appear to be a rare Starday custom press on a 78 record, you can find them on a 45 rpm (still very rare on 45 and sell between $400 - $600) and on you tube but the 78 version seems to be a bit of a rarity!
The A side is a nice bluesy, pop record with some nice guitar but it's the flip written by Curly that will have you reaching for your peg pants and comb for that all important 'Duck Tail'.
A simple song that is obviously trying to catch on to the new teen Rock 'n' Roll fan and hits all the marks with mentions of Peg pants, Duck tail hair, Cats and Bobbysox so don't be square man!!!
This records starts with a stop start vocal and then proceeds to get hotter & hotter and when the lead guitar gets going this mother cooks, Curly woops and screams and seems to be having a real good time.
Any Chance of the flip side? Please. is it the same as Starday (TX) 45 - 670 : Joyce Love With Curly Sanders & His Santones - Why Did You Leave Me (1958) (SCP) ?
ReplyDeleteJust played both forgot I had this. Same song, not the same versions.
